$20 GOLD LIBERTY DOUBLE EAGLES
The $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagle was the largest regular issue ever produced in America. This historic gold coin was to be comparable to the Mexican Eight Reale, and the design was used from 1850 to 1907 -- a span of fifty-seven years. The $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles were followed by the $20 Gold St. Gaudens Double Eagle design. These long running $20 Liberties were struck in Philadelphia, San Francisco, Carson City, New Orleans, and Denver. They have great appeal to both collectors and non-collectors. $20 Liberty Double Eagles can be found in high grades, and many are rare enough to appeal to seasoned rare coin collectors. The Carson City $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles have the distinction of lower mintages than the San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Denver mints. However, many $20 Gold Liberty Double Eagles struck at the Philadelphia mint have extremely low mintages, even lower than the famed Carson City, and their prices are relatively high.
