$20 ST. GAUDENS GOLD DOUBLE EAGLE
The St. Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle is considered the most beautiful and most popular U.S. gold coin, and is one of the largest, containing almost a full 1 ounce of pure gold. It is the keystone of all investment rare coins, and is in very high demand.
The St. Gaudens 1 oz gold coin was produced from 1907-1933. The obverse is an image of Lady Liberty, holding an olive branch and a torch of freedom. The reverse shows a powerful eagle, proudly flying over the sun.
The St. Gaudens $20 Gold Double Eagle was commissioned by President Theodore Roosevelt at the turn of the 20th century, and was designed by Augustus St. Gaudens. Roosevelt wanted a design that would be more beautiful than any other U.S. coin before it. This coin has a unique design, because it was the first to feature the mint mark on the obverse side. It was also the first U.S. coin to use Roman numerals for the year, but they were only used in the early 1907 coins - afterward, the more traditional Arabic numerals were used.
The St. Gaudens' incredible beauty and majesty has made it a long-time collectors' favorite. An absolute must for your collection.
